This position is responsible for underwriting all government loans which include Rural Development, FHA, VA, non-conforming and conventional loans. This includes: assistance in evaluating loan risk by verifying loan application information against loan guidelines and standards, reviewing all necessary documents for each file (i.e., appraisals, surveys, title work, payoffs, etc.); to ensure the documentation meets all investor and/or internal product guidelines. Maintain current knowledge of all investor program requirements by utilizing AllRegs and other industry tools

• Receive mortgage applications and underwrite applications as per designated limits;
• Must analyze income and employment detail of the borrower to determine the ability of the borrower to repay the mortgage loan.
• Review the borrower's credit report and credit rating to determine the ability of the borrower to repay; the loan after analyzing the borrower's prior payment history;
• Review the appraisal and check if it has been values properly to warrant the loan requested from the bank;
• Be available to correspondents for general guideline interpretations and questions on specific loan files;
• Underwrite Loan files that meet investor, Agency and government loan guidelines. 
• Review Loan files for potential mortgage fraud. 
• Proficient knowledge of complex tax returns/financial statements;
• Assist in training and mentoring of new team members
• Thorough understanding of mortgage documents along with a complete understanding of how to close and fund a loan.
• Be able to support correspondent Loan Reviewers when underwriting volume is down
• Manage a working pipeline to meet department production goals.
• Meet established standards and guidelines with regard to compliance, job knowledge, quality, attendance, efficiency, initiative, customer service, and overall performance.
• Maintain customer confidence by providing ongoing quality service and keeping all files and information confidential.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and compliance with internal policies and procedures. Understand and ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations affecting our institution.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• FHA Chums number Required
• VA SAR preferred
• At least 5 years mortgage underwriting experience
• Candidates must have manual underwriting experience and be familiar with LP and DU underwriting and have a thorough knowledge of complex tax returns/financial statements;
• Proficient in all aspects of underwriting including property, credit, and income evaluation;
• Must have knowledge pertaining to the regulations governing mortgage lending;
• Must have current knowledge of TRID;
• Ability to work collaboratively with others in a fast paced, deadline driven environment;
• Proficient computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, any other mortgage/banking software, etc.).
• Professional demeanor and interaction with all customers (internal and external). 
• Effective interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment as well as independently.
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision while obtaining satisfactory results.
• Ability to pay attention to detail while handling a high volume of work with multiple interruptions.
• Effective project management skills and the ability to proactively problem solve.
• Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and compliance with internal policies and procedures. Understand and ensure compliance with laws, rules, and regulations affecting our institution.
